This past Saturday, Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander threw his 2nd career
Verlander was inches away from throwing a perfect game and seemed way more dominant than his first no-hitter against the Milwaukee Brewers back in 2007.
According to Shawn Windsor of the Detroit Free Press, Verlander decided last week after his start against the Yankees that he needed to relax early on in the beginning of games to establish a rhythm.
Through the first three innings of his no-hitter Saturday, Verlander only threw 31 pitches.
So how many no-no’s does Verlander want to throw in his career (keep in mind he is only 28 years old)? When Verlander was asked this he quickly replied seven. The same number of no-hitters the great Nolan Ryan threw in his Hall of Fame career.
“Things have to work out right to throw a no-hitter,” he said, but “as long as I continue to mature, there will be some opportunities there.”
