The United States women cemented themselves as the best soccer program in the World Sunday night while enacting some revenge on Japan.
In the Women’s World Cup Final from Vancouver, the U.S. destroyed defending champs Japan 5-2 to win their third WC title, the first since 1999 and the most of any country surpassing Germany’s two.
Carli Loyd was the star of the Championship Game scoring the fastest hat trick in World Cup history (15 minutes) while scoring the only hat trick in the final game’s history. She went on to collect the Golden Boot as well as the Silver Boot.

Abby Wambach also secured her first World Cup victory playing in her last USWNT match. Wambach has been a staple on the Women’s National team since 2001 and has been the face of U.S. Women’s soccer for the majority of that period.

It was also quite the turn of events for the U.S. who really had trouble getting their offense going throughout the Tournament. On top of getting retribution for their 2011 loss to Japan in the finals, Hope Solo and the U.S. only allowed three total goals through out the entire World Cup.
