The Tigers finally addressed their infield needs Friday signing veteran Gleyber Torres to a one-year, $15M contract according to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers.
The 28-year-old Torres slashed .257/.330/.378 with 15 home runs, 26 doubles, and 63 RBIs in 154 games with the Yankees. The line seems very pedestrian, however, Torres rebounded in late June going .298/.365/.421 after hitting .215/.294/.333 through the first 80 games.
Although this is all still a far cry from the 38 home runs in just 144 games Torres managed in 2019, his numbers last season would’ve made him the most productive Tigers infielder offensively in 2024.
Colt Keith likely moving to a corner infield spot
As far as 2025 goes, Torres is expected to remain at second while Colt Keith presumably takes over at one of the corner infield positions.
