The Tigers are asking for everyone’s left nut in return for Matt Boyd

In return for starter Matt Boyd, the Tigers are asking teams for everything including the kitchen sink.

Over the weekend, talks were said to be ongoing between Detroit and the Yankees centered on a deal for the left-hander who’s had a good season in 2019 but has had his struggles as of late. In return for Boyd the Tigers were reportedly seeking infielder Gleyber Torres who New York isn’t parting with, at leas not for Boyd. Likewise, the Tigers are also seeking the moon for right fielder Nick Castellanos but in a much more limited market.

Which brings us to today as the Houston Astros expressed their interest in Boyd and like the back-and-forth with the Yankees, Detroit asked for a shit ton in return, this time to the tune of Kyle Tucker.

As Morosi eluded to, if the Astros were unwilling to part with Tucker as part of the Verlander deal, they sure as hell aren’t going to bite on this for Boyd.

The Tigers don’t need to deal Boyd who is under team control through 2022 but you may as well strike while the iron is hot – or in this case warm – considering Detroit doesn’t look like they’ll be ready to compete when Boyd’s contract is up.

A lot can happen though in the course of a month before the trade deadline on July 31st. Boyd could fall of the face of the Earth in terms of his performance or we could see teams become more desperate if injuries begin to play a factor.
