The Tigers and Rays swung a deal for a couple of minor-league pitchers Wednesday as Detroit sent 25-year-old Mason Englert to Tampa Bay for 24-year-old Drew Sommers.
Englert, who was DFA’d by the Tigers last week, had 12 appearances for Detroit last season, compiling a 5.40 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 21 2/3 innings. Additionally, Englert also surrendered four home runs and struck out 16 batters.
Meanwhile, Sommers, who pitched for Tampa Bay’s High-A affiliate in Bowling Green last season, managed a 4.00 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 54 innings.
