The Redeem Team: Team USA takes gold in men’s basketball with 107-100 win over Spain

Team USA once again proved they are the best in the world.

Sunday, the United States shot 48.6% from the field en route to a 107-100 win over Spain to win their second straight gold medal.

And just like 2008, the United States had to work for it over a Spain team that hung with the Americans the entire game. But In the end, just like it has been almost every time before the United States’ depth and overall skill level carried the team to further greatness.

Capitalizing on an amazing NBA season and Finals, LeBron James was clutch once again with a monster dunk towards the end of the game and a vital three at the 2:50 mark in the fourth quarter.

Kevin Durant scored 30 points and James had 19 on a momentous day that saw him join Michael Jordan as the only players to win the NBA title, regular-season MVP, NBA Finals MVP and Olympic gold.

U.S. head coach Mike Krzyzewski emptied the bench late in what was probably his final game as the U.S. National Team’s head coach. It was also the final time that Kobe Bryant would wear the nations colors on a the world stage as he announced after the game that this Olympics would be his last.

Bryant finishes with two gold medals to go along with five NBA championships. He had 17 points in the game.

Pau Gasol scored 24 points and Juan Carlos Navarro had 21 for Spain.
