Monday, the Red Wings signed forward Robby Fabbri to a two-year contract extension avoiding any conflict that could come with restricted free agency and keeping intact the fleecing of the St. Louis that cost Steve Yzerman a Danny Gare rookie card and Jacob de la Rose.

Financials for the deal weren’t initially released, however, The Athletic’s Craig Custance reported the two-year deal would carry an AAV of $2.95 million.

Offhand there really isn’t anything to like about this deal unless you were some Jacob de la Rose stan and are still bitter about the trade, which means every Red Wing fan will welcome this news with open arms. First, there’s zero long-term commitment just in case this past season was some kind of anomaly. Not to mention in two seasons if everything does pan out with Fabbri, Detroit will be in a much better position financially with the likes of Frans Nielsen, Darren Helm, Henrik Zetterberg, and yes Johan Franzen finally coming off the books.
