The Red Wings have placed former sixth-overall pick Filip Zadina on waivers perhaps cementing one of the biggest draft busts for the organization in quite some time.

The 23-year-old Zadina is probably ending his time in Detroit by compiling just 28 goals and 68 points in 190 games. Zadina had his best season last year registering 10 goals and 24 points in 74 contests but couldn’t follow that up with any kind of moderate success in 2022-23 netting only three goals and seven points in 30 games.

Zadina and his agent reportedly requested a trade out of Detroit before last week’s draft seeking a fresh start, however, Steve Yzerman was unable to find a trade partner which ultimately led to him being waived.

Teams will now have until 2:00 pm ET on Tuesday to put in a claim on the winger with Anaheim getting the first shot.

In the meantime, Detroit has roughly $10 million to work with under the cap heading into the upcoming season.
