It’s official, Patrick Kane is returning to the Red Wings.

Sunday, the veteran forward agreed to a one-year deal, $4M deal plus bonuses to return to Detroit next season.

This really turned out to be a nice deal for Yzerman and the Red Wings for the 35-year-old Kane who was nearly a point-per-game player for Detroit when he arrived halfway through last season. Getting Kane on a one-year deal was huge for the Wings, especially considering all the talk was that Kane was seeking a three-year contract, something that Yzerman was in no way prepared to do. Additionally, with at least $4M being committed to Kane, you’d think that probably opens things up for the Red Wings to make further headway tomorrow once free agency officially opens up in the NHL. Perhaps the favorable terms for Detroit with Kane came with some assurances that further help was on the way this offseason.

In any sense though, this is a nice offseason win for Yzerman and company while Kane returns to a team that turned out to be an incredible fit for him last year.
