The Red Sox cancelled David Ortiz bobblehead night because of ‘racially insensitive’ bobbleheads

David Ortiz

The Boston Red Sox have nixed the David Ortiz bobblehead giveaway tonight since the bobblehead’s themselves look like they were the creation of some early 1900’s Loney Tunes episode.

Here’s the official statement from the Red Sox:

The Boston Red Sox have cancelled tonight’s David Ortiz bobblehead giveaway. The bobbleheads were unacceptable to the club and not appropriate for distribution. We will be issuing new David Ortiz bobbleheads to all ticketed fans at a later date. Information on how fans can secure their item will be posted on redsox.com shortly after tonight’s game. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

The good news for the fans obviously is they’ll still receive a bobblehead as soon as the C.Thomas Howell ones are fixed. However I’m still not sure what’s worse these bobbleheads or white poncho night at U.S. Cellular.

The 40-year old Big Papi is still set to retire at the end of the season despite posting a .309 batting average and 1.014 OPS this year.
