The Athletics have taken further steps in their scheduled move out of Oakland after the season.
Earlier in the week it was announced that the Athletics had struck a deal to play at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento from 2025-2027 before the team lands in their final destination of Las Vegas in 2028. Friday though the organization reportedly filed two new trademarks in anticipation of snake John Fisher ripping the Athletics away from Bay Area fans.
According to Josh Gerben, founder, and principal of Gerben IP, the Athletics filed trademarks for “The Athletics” and “Sacramento Athletics”.
In addition to this, Evan Drellich of The Athletic also learned from an Athletics spokesperson that the team would be known as the “A’s” or “Athletics” during their stint in Sacramento from 2025-2027 before moving to Vegas in 2028.
The Athletics had been negotiating with the city of Oakland to remain in the Coliseum after the lease runs out at the end of the season but ultimately chose to go over 80 miles northeast to Sacramento to wait out their new stadium in Las Vegas. Either way, 2024 will mark the end of a long era of baseball in Oakland stretching back to 1968 when the team landed in the Bay Area from Kansas City.
