The New York Jets and Robert Saleh have agreed on a five-year deal as the 49ers’ defensive coordinator to become the 20th head coach in team history. Saleh replaces Adam Gase who was fired after the season winning just seven games in his last two seasons with New York.
Saleh was called back for as second interview on Tuesday with the Jets after having a virtual interview with the team on January 8. The Jets also conducted interviews with offensive coordinator Kansas City offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, Saints secondary coach Aaron Glenn, former Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis, Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley.
Saleh also garnered interest from the Falcons, Lions, Jaguars, and Chargers who were also scheduled to meet with the DC for a second interview.
