The Lions, the Draft and the Combine

The Lions are heading into almost uncharted territory coming off one of their best seasons in nearly tow decades. After finishing 10-6, the Lions will draft in the 23rd spot a position that is quite unfamiliar to them after years of losing and high first rounders.

“The challenges for us going forward are different than they were in the past,” Lions president Tom Lewand said during Super Bowl week. “We are trying to keep the nucleus of the players we have together for as long as we can. We have some tough decisions to make.”

Lewand also mentioned that the team plans to take the best player available rather than focus on specific roster needs. despite Lewand’s claims though the Lions will more than likely look to add talent on the offensive line, linebacker or cornerback positions.

Chris McCosky at the Detroit News expects the Lions to spend extra time at the NFL combine this week with CB Janoris Jenkins (North Alabama), OT Jonathan Martin (Stanford), OT Mike Adams (Ohio St.) and running back Isaiah Pead (Cincinnati).

Based on the status talented yet injured running backs in Jahvid Best and Mikel Leshoure, don’t be surprised if the Lions address the running back position once again via free agency or through the draft.
