According to various reports, the Lions have cut CB Chris Houston just one season after signing the defensive back to a $25 million dollar contract.

The move of Houston’s release also comes after he was a no-show at the mandatory minicamp where of which most injured players still attend to absorb some of the new schemes especially with a new coaching staff according to Kyle Meinke of Mlive.com. Houston is coming off toe surgery this off season and wasn’t alone in being a non attendee at camp considering TJ Jones, tailback Joique Bell (knee), receiver Golden Tate (shoulder) and defensive end Ezekiel Ansah (shoulder) all weren’t in attendance. Still though Meinke points out that Houston hasn’t been seen at all during any stage of the Lions’ off season program.
In addition to this the money saved by released Houston was put towards the rookie deal of first round selection Eric Ebron who finally signed on the dotted line today.

Either way you have to wonder what the Lions’ plan is now at the defensive back position that was already pretty shallow to begin with.
