In an effort to add some outfield depth, the Giants today pulled the trigger on acquiring former Gold Glove finalist Kevin Pillar from the Blue Jays for three players.
The the Giants, the 30-year-old Pillar will serve as a notable option for San Francisco given the highlight reel plays he has the knack for pulling out his pocket while patrolling the outfield. And although his on-base struggles are certainly real, Pillar will offer the Giants a nice platoon option in centerfield alongside Steven Duggar, which is especially the case against left-handed pitchers.
Going the other way in the deal is righty Derek Law, recently designated infielder Alen Hanson, and righty Juan De Paula who’ll serve as the centerpiece in the deal for the Blue Jays.
