Butler has once again moved into the Sweet 16 as they have taken down #1 seeded Pitt 71-70 Saturday night.
Butler who has started to compile of nice resume of NCAA Tournament upsets sealed the victory tonight after Matt Howard made a free throw with 0.8 seconds left in the second half to cap of a wild final minute.
Butler and Pitt both had a chance to win the game with 2 seconds left after Butler’s Shelvin Mack fouled Gilbert Brown near midcourt with 1.4 seconds left. Brown was able to sink the first free throw to tie the game.
After he missed the second free throw Howard was fouled by Nasir Robinson while trying to get the rebound. Howard made the first rebound but them intentionally banked the second attempt off the rim.
Brown ended up finishing the game with 24 points for Pitt but unfortunately will probably forever be remembered for his missed free throw.
Butler has now won 11 straight overall and is 7-1 in its last eight NCAA tournament games. The Bulldogs will now face either Kansas State or Wisconsin in the Southeast Regional.
