The Chip Kelly era with the Philadelphia Eagles has come to an end.

According to the team’s website, head coach Chip Kelly along with vice president of player personnel Ed Marynowitz have been ‘released’.

Pat Shurmur will serve as interim head coach for the Eagles’ final game this coming weekend against the New York Giants while Tom Donahue will assume the role of director of player personnel.

Since becoming the head coach of the Eagles after a successful run with the Oregon Ducks, Kelly went 25-19 during the regular season with one postseason appearance that resulted in a loss.

The firing of Kelly isn’t surprising in the least bit.

Despite the record that sits above .500, Kelly has gone 6-9 this season while alienating himself from the rest of the team. Players have since gone to the media, anonymously for the most part speaking out against Kelly and his coaching style.

Prior to his firing, Kelly has expressed a desire to stay within the NFL however given his success at the college level it’s going to be interesting to see just how hard some upper-tier programs go after him.
