The Washington Football Team has made the utterly easy decision to move on from their former 15 overall pick by waiving quarterback Dwayne Haskins after less than two seasons and less than a day after the Ohio State standout lost his starting gig to another quarterback no one has ever heard of.
The news was first reported by the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero and later confirmed in a statement released by Washington head coach Ron Rivera.
“This afternoon I met with Dwayne and informed him that we would be releasing him,” coach Ron Rivera said in a statement. “I told him that I believe it benefits both parties that we go our separate ways. We want to thank Dwayne for his contributions these last two seasons and wish him well moving forward.”

Haskins — who was never able to find a stable footing for himself in Washington was benched multiple times this season in favor of a guy who had a touchdown to interception ratio of 17/16 in 2019 in Kyle Allen, a guy in Taylor Heinicke who was taking online college classes before getting a call from the Football Team to play QB after Allen’s ankle popped out of its socket and Alex Smith who literally had to have his right leg reconstructed and is quite frankly lucky to still have it after one of the most gruesome injuries you’ll ever see.
Even after having his captainship taken away from him due to COVID violations at a strip club Rivera continued to give Haskins chance after chance which culminated Sunday after the quarterback threw three interceptions and was eventually benched in the fourth quarter in favor of Heinicke.
So where does Haskins go from here?
The guy is only 23 years old, so it’s certainly plausible he gets another shot with another NFL team. The guy has shown ability — even yesterday only to follow up any positive steps forward with maskless visits to the strip club or executing passes like these:
Nonetheless, Haskins will always have this…
