UPDATE 3:09 pm ET: With Abdullah no longer in the mix, the Lions have brought back RB Zach Zenner who was released earlier in the year.
Although just a formality at this point, former second round draft pick Ameer Abdullah is officially a bust.
Tuesday, the Detroit Lions cut the phased our running back who barely touched the ball this season and when he did, fumbled the ball on a kickoff return two weeks ago.
In correlation with the release of Abdullah the Lions have added veteran wide receiver Bruce Ellington to the mix.
The #Lions are signing FA WR Bruce Ellington, formerly of the #Texans, source said. To create space, they are waiving RB Ameer Abdullah. He’s been mostly inactive this season. DET had some trade talks before the deadline but nothing came to fruition. The next step was to move on.

Also, what kind of highway robbery would that be if the Lions were able to trade Abdullah just prior to the deadline? I mean getting some fresh urinal cakes for the Ford Field men’s rooms would be a plus return at this point.
