Joe Mixon’s three touchdowns on Monday Night helped send the Texans to a pretty decisive 34-10 win over the Cowboys who hilariously have yet to win a game at the sudden crumbling Jerry’s World.
Houston never trailed as Dallas suffered their fifth-straight loss and are now undoubtedly playing for 2025 and beyond while fans count down the days to the end of Mike McCarthy who is in the final year of his contract and more than likely will not return next season.
Despite the loss, things weren’t entirely terrible for the Cowboys as long as things are kept in perspective when it comes to what this team isn’t going to do this season. Notably, the production from Luke Schoonmaker (6 catches, 56 yards) and Brevyn Spann-Ford (3 catches, 31 yards) was encouraging after Jake Ferguson exited the game with a concussion.
Ka’vontae Turpin also dazzled a bit with a 64-yard touchdown catch-and-run as the Cowboys look for playmakers outside of CeeDee Lamb on offense.
Cooper Rush (323 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) also looked better under center than he did against the Eagles although he’s not someone who will be remotely in the cards for this team beyond this season.
As far as Houston goes, the win seemed to mask some of the continued glaring issues with this team that could very well pose some significant problems for the team later in the season. Nico Collins’ 77-yard touchdown was negated because Laremy Tunsil was flagged for being ineligible downfield. Aside from that, the offensive line continues to hamper the Texans in pass protection, which has affected CJ Stroud’s performance compared to last season as the second-year player still doesn’t look quite like himself after an impressive rookie year while struggling to find a rhythm Monday night.
Lastly, Houston continues to have trouble putting teams away.
After being unable to secure a win over Detroit last Sunday night, the Texans didn’t get into the endzone until later in the fourth quarter after the defense stopped the Cowboys on their own 35 after a failed fourth down conversion attempt.
