The Bruins dress 50-year old Bob Essensa as a backup

With Tuukka Rask exiting Saturday afternoon’s game against the Rangers early due to dehydration, the Bruins decided to dress a 50-year old Bob Essensa and put him on the bench to backup Niklas Svedberg. Of course this was an act of desperation and to avoid the lunacy that happened a few weeks ago with the Florida Panthers.

Essensa had an NHL career that spanned over 12 seasons with 7 different teams. He last played in the league back in 2001-02 with the Buffalo Sabres before retiring at the end of the season. Since calling it a career, Essensa got into coaching where he most recently took on the role as a goaltending coach with the Bruins.

As a Red Wings fan this brought back some half ass Brian Murray goaltending solutions though…
