Chip Kelly is making his way back to the west coast, this time as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
The announcement was made by the team’s CEO Jed York on Twitter this afternoon.
After a thorough search, Trent & I are thrilled to announce Chip Kelly as the new #HeadCoach of the @49ers

Apparently the search came down to Kelly and Mike Shanahan with 49ers opting to go with the former Eagles sideline boss.
Sure Chip Kelly probably should have gone back to college but you really cannot pass up any opportunity in the NFL. Unless you’re being tabbed to coach the Browns, which in that case you may as well see if there’s any good JUCO openings available.
UPDATE: Chip Kelly apparently doesn’t want personnel control with the 49ers but will decide the future of the team’s offensive and defensive coordinators. San Francisco was apparently Kelly’s one shot to stay in the NFL with his availability also being the dagger in the Jim Tomsula firing.
