For the first time since 1998, the women of Team USA Hockey are Olympic Champions.
Last night the US defeated their rivals to the north Canada 3-2 in a shootout after Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson provided the United States with this filthy deke and a score which eventually served as the game winner after Maddie Rooney made the follow up save to seal the deal for the Americans.

Amanda Kessel and Gigi Marvin also scored for the United States in the shootout while Hilary Knight and Monique Lamoureux tallied goals for the US in regulation.
For Team USA it was the perfect rebound from the heartbreak suffered four years ago in Sochi when they gave up a two-goal lead in the gold medal game and fall to Canada as a result. It also serves as justification for the women’s team after they threatened to sit out the World Championships if Team USA Hockey didn’t provide equitable treatment to the men’s team and provide improved salary and benefits to women.
Not to mention given the divisiveness in the United State’s today, this was certainly needed.
