Tuesday morning, Nike and the Michigan State University Athletic Department revealed the Nike Pro Combat which will be worn when the Spartans take on Michigan on October 15th.
The uniforms will feature black pants with dark green trim, dark green jerseys with bronze and black trim and gold helmets with green and black trim along with the iconic spartan logo on the side. MSUSpartans.com describes the use of bronze honors the heroic armor of their historic namesake of the Spartans of legend. Furthermore on color you will find the words “Molon Labe,” which means “come and get them” another tribute to King Leonidas and the Spartans of legend.
Overall though this uniform seems to lose the traditional identity of the Michigan State Spartans with the darker green and use of bronze. It almost looks like a Nike Pro Combat that the University of Oregon or Notre Dame would use. Now don’t get me wrong, I like the symbolic use of the bronze however it should be more subtle with the use of white being more prominent.
