Spartans beat Florida State in Big Ten/ACC Challenge, cheerleader injured during fall

Michigan State used a strong game from Brandon Wood to defeat Florida State 65-49 tonight from the Breslin Center in the Big Ten/ACC Challange.

Wood’s complete night included a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Those 16 points, 1o rebounds plus 5 assists were personal bests for Wood who transferred from Valparaiso this year.

The Spartans also continued to win games on the boards. Up until tonight’s game the Spartans out rebounded their opponents in each game they’ve played in this season. Tonight though was a struggle against a much bigger Seminoles team however Michigan State was still able to get the 35-34 edge.

Things got scary though during the game when a Michigan State cheerleader took a hard fall during a time out in the first half.

20-year-old junior cheerleader Taylor Young went face first into the ground with 7:56 remaining in the first half. Play was suspended for several minutes as medical personnel attended to the injured Young. She was then transferred to Sparrow Hospital where she was expected to be released late Wednesday night with a clean bill of health.

The Spartan win tonight though clinched a Big Ten win over the ACC in the challenge.
