Sources: Tigers interested in Baltimore’s Guthrie

You can now add Baltimore right-hander Jeremy Guthrie to the list of pitchers the Tigers may target as the MLB non-waiver trade deadline looms.

According to Fox Sports’ Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal the Tigers do have interest in the 32 year old starter however he falls behind guys like Hiroki Kuroda and Ubaldo Jimenez.

Morosi and Rosenthal however believe that O’s GM Andy MacPhail may hesitate to make the move since Guthrie is an innings eater despite sporting a 3-13 and a 4.45 ERA.

Guthrie is currently earning $5.75 million dollars this season and is eligible for salary arbitration in 2012 in which he is due a raise. After 2012 he can become a free agent.

Baltimore is expected to want pitching in return after having scouts in attendance to watch the Triple-A affiliates of the Tigers and Yankees play. Three of the Tigers top left-handed pitching prospects; Andy Oliver, Charlie Furbush and Matt Hoffman, did see action in the game however it seems unlikely that the Tigers would deal any one of those guys for a pitcher like Guthrie.
