Source: Mike Woodson getting second interview with the Pistons

Former Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Woodson is going to get a second interview with the Detroit Pistons for their vacant head coaching position reports the Associated Press.

A person close to the situation spoke on a condition of anonymity (since the team isn’t discussing the coaching search publicly) that Woodson is expected to get his second interview on Thursday.

Woodson does have a connection with the Pistons since he did serve as an assistant coach under Larry Brown back in 2004. That coaching staff also included recently fired Pistons head coach John Kuester.

Pistons veteran Ben Wallace, who is leaning towards returning to the team, believes Woodson would do a good job if hired by Detroit.

“I think Mike would do a great job. I think he did a great job with Atlanta,” Wallace said. “I think he took those guys as far as they were ready to go. I think he’d be a great fit for us.”

After the Pistons, Woodson become the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks from 2004 to 2010 where he compiled a 206-286 win/loss record. He took the Hawks to the playoffs his last three seasons and was let go after being swept by the Orlando Magic in the second round.
