Suh

Here is a quick recap from Adam ‘Dorf’ Waltersdorf of what went out on our Facebook page, The Majors Detroit for the Lions’ 2014 regular season opener against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.  These updates and analysis are also posted on our twitter page which can be found by clicking here, but they are often too long to fit in Twitters’ 140 characters or less limit.

  1. Ladies and Gentleman, here is the debut of The Majors Detroit’s weekly Lions game preview and breakdown that we will call “The Roar”.LINK: The Roar: Previewing the Lions and Giants
  2. The Lions have won the toss and will receive!
  3. TOUCHDOWN DETROIT LIONS!!!!!Matt Stafford jukes a defender out of his jockstrap, escaping the pass rush and hits Megatron for a 67 yard TD! Calvin became free after the scramble drill left his defender charging towards the line of scrimmage.

The Lions lead 7-0 with 12:11 to go in the 1st quarter!

  4. The Lions get their first 3 and out of the season, stuffing two up the gut runs and nearly picking off a pass. The 56 yard Giants’ punt is returned for 6 yards by Jeremy Ross to the Lions’ 31 yard line. The Lions lead the Giants 7-0 with 10:35 left in the 1st quarter.
  5. The #Giants Jason Pierre-Paul is injured. Looks as though he injured his right shoulder pursuing Stafford. On the play, the Lions picked up 24 yards on a hookup between Stafford and Reggie Bush to take the ball to the Lion 47 yard line. The combo has already connected three times for 42 yards.

The Lions lead the Giants 7-0 with 9:52 left in the 2nd quarter.

  6. TOUCHDOWN DETROIT LIONS!!!!!!!Stafford hooks up with Megatron again after scrambling around the pocket, throws across his body, Calvin dives and catches it!!!!!

The Lions have a 14-0 lead with 5:12 left in the 1st quarter. Outside of a Joique Bell fumble that was recovered by the Lions, this offense if down right dynamic!

  7. Bill Bentley is down with an apparent leg injury. He was also flagged for a defensive pass interference on the play. Double whammy…
  8. The Lions get another quick stop, forcing a Giant punt THAT IS PARTIALLY BLOCKED!!!!! The ball only travels 15 yards down field and is downed at the Lions 37 yard line where the dynamic offense will take over. The Lions lead 14-0 with 3:41 to go in the 1st quarter.
  9. Calvin Johnson is also exiting the game with an injury. He just got landed on going for a jump ball. Likely just got the wind knocked out of him.He only misses one play and is back in the lineup. Everyone exhale.
  10. The Lions can’t get a first down on their third possession of the season only managing to gain 2 yards. The Sam Martin punt travels 57 yards and is returned to the Giants’ own 16 yard line.

The Giants take over trailing 14-0 with 2:50 left in the 1st quarter.

  11. Bill Bentley is officially questionable to return with a knee injury. Rookie 4th round pick Nevin Lawson replaces Bentley as the Nickel Back.
  12. The Giants’ Jason Pierre-Paul has returned from the locker room after getting an x-ray on his neck. No damage shown and he will return shortly to the game.
  13. Eli Manning is SACKED by George Johnson, who came untouched up the middle on a stunt. The sack ends a promising drive that had penetrated Lions territory. However… Rookie Safety Jerome Couplin is flagged for roughing the punter, which will give the Giants the ball right back. Giant Punter Steve
Weatherford is injured on the play, as Couplin rolled up on his ankle.
  14. AT THE END OF THE1ST QUARTER:The Lions lead the Giants on Monday Night Football by a score of 14-0. Calvin Johnson and Matthew Stafford have hooked up for both scores, one from 67 yards out and the second from 6 yards out.
  15. That’s already seven penalties on the Lions. The most recent one is a DPI on Slay in the end zone, putting the ball at the 1 yard line.
  16. AND THE LIONS DEFENSE HOLDS!!!The Giants have three shots to score from the 1 yard line and the defense turns all three away!!!!

The Giants line up to go for it on 4th down, but a Lion timeout puts that on hold.

  17. TOUCHDOWN GIANTS:The Giants go for it on 4th down and connect on a jump ball for a 1 yard TD.

The Lions lead the Giants 14-7 with 12:54 to go in the 2nd quarter.

  18. The Lions go 3 and out for the second consecutive drive. Sam Martin lets loose another bomb off his right foot as it travels 52 yards. The Giants take over on their own 39 with 10:41 left to go in the 2nd quarter trailing the Lions 14-7.
  19. The Lions end another promising Giants’ drive with a sack split by George Johnson and ZiggyAnsah! The field position for the Lions is aided by a penalty by the Giants on the punt. The Lions will take over at their own 31 yard line.

The Lions lead the Giants 14-7 with 8:18 to go in the 2nd quarter.

  20. 8 penalties for 85 yards already. That’s disappointing. If they are playing anybody but the awful Giants, this game would be ugly with the Lions trailing.
  21. The Lions offense overcomes a couple dumb penalties to get back within field goal range. The *43 yard field goal by Rookie Nate Freese is hooked wide left. The Lions still have a 14-7 lead with 1:55 left in the 2nd quarter.
  22. The Giants penetrate into Lions territory on the 2-minute drill, but the Lions turn them away. The Weatherford punt is fair caught at the Lions’ 9-yard line. There is 49 seconds left and the Lions have 2 timeouts remaining.

  23. AT THE HALF:The Lions lead the Giants 14-7 on Monday Night Football.

The Lions have more penalty yards (85) than the Giants have total yards (75).

Both Lions touchdowns come via TD receptions by Calvin Johnson.

  24. LINK: Stafford to Calvin was clicking early for the Lions.
  25. DEANDRE LEVY PICKS IT OFF!!!!DeAndre Levy picks off Eli Manning on a ball thrown at the back of a receiver that didn’t even know it was coming.

The play stands up to video review, as Levy managed to keep the ball only sightly off the ground, it couldn’t have been more than an inch between the point of the ball and the turf.

The Lions take over at the Giants 18 yard line leading 14-7 with 13:31 to go in the 3rd quarter.

  26. Other news I forgot to relay to you fine folks earlier, Lions starting RT LaAdrian Waddle left the game in the 1st quarter with a calf injury. He has been replaced ever since by Corey Hilliard.
  27. FIELD GOAL LIONS!!!Nate Freese hits his second opportunity from 28 yards out to extend the Lions lead to 17-7 with 11:54 left in the 3rd quarter.
  28. The Lions get another stop of the 3 and out variety. This Giants offense looks utterly lost on the field. The Lions lead 17-7 with 9:52 to go in the 3rd quarter.
  29. FIELD GOAL LIONS!!!The Lions have another promising drive and have to settle for the third Nate Freese Field Goal try of the night. And the 27 yard try from the left hash is good.

The Lions lead the Giants 20-7 with 5:50 to go in the 3rd quarter.

  30. INTERCEPTION FOR THE LIONS!!!!Glover Quin picks off an Eli Manning rainbow pass and runs it back to the Giants 19 yard line!!!!

The Lions lead 20-7 with 5:32 to go in the 3rd quarter.

  31. TOUCHDOWN DETROIT LIONS!!!!!!!Matt Stafford scrambles into the end zone and shows off his fancy feet in the process for the 5 yard TD!!!

The Lions now lead the Giants 27-7 with 3:51 left in the 3rd quarter.

  32. END OF THE 3RD QUARTER:The Lions lead the Giants 27-7.

Two Lions Field Goals and a Matt Stafford Rushing TD are the only scoring of the quarter.

  33. TOUCHDOWN GIANTS:Rashad Jennings pounds it in from 1 yard out to get the Giants back to within two scores.

The Giants now trail the Lions 27-14 with 11:53 left in regulation.

  34. LINK: It’s nice when the #Lions can help contribute a sideline Eli face

  35. TOUCHDOWN DETROIT LIONS!!!!!!!Joique Bell goes off right tackle and into the end zone for a 3 yard score!

The Lions go for two and get it! What a catch by Fauria!

The score is now 35-14 with 4:39 left in regulation.

  36. The Giants go for it on 4th and 2, because they don’t have a choice. Suh stuffs the Giants’ running back for the loss, giving the Lions the ball back around midfield.
  37. Matt Stafford will kneel this one out giving the Lions the 35-14 victory on Monday Night Football!!! It is the team’s lone appearance this year on MNF, so this is a great way to gain national credibility!
  38. Another very positive note about this Lions team:They had 8 penalties for 85 yards in the 1st half. The then came out of the locker room after the half and didn’t commit another penalty the rest of the game and buried a team instead of letting them hang around in typical Lions fashion.
