Today the Tigers announced that not only will former player Kirk Gibson be working as the team’s new color guy for FSD but he’ll also be working as a special assistant to general manager Al Avila.

According to Evan Woodberry of Mlive.com, Gibson’s new role “will allow him to work in an on-field capacity at all levels of the organization while participating in personnel meetings with the front office.”
What’s amazing about this move is the team pretty much giving zero fucks about the perception this gives off of having someone who is completely bought and paid for by the team up in the booth. Now it’s completely understandable that you’re not going to get guys who are totally impartial on local broadcasts.
Gibson pulling both duties however seems a little ridiculous considering anything he says now will have to be taken with an even bigger grain of salt.
