Jameis Winston, AJ McCarron, Andre Williams, Tre Mason, Johnny Manziel and Jordan Lynch are your 2013 Heisman Trophy finalists.
The six players were announced Monday and have been invited to New York for the ceremony which will take place this year on December 14th. In fact this is the first time since 1994 and only the second time ever that six finalists have been named for the highest individual honor in college football.
Winston, who was recently cleared of sexual assault allegations remains the heavy favorite to win this year’s honor and could become Florida State’s third Heisman winner and first since 2000. Meanwhile Manziel is a finalist for the second straight year after taking home the honors last season while McCarron becomes the third finalist from the Crimson Tide in the past five years. Williams is also the first finalist from Boston College since Doug Flutie in 1984 while Jordan Lynch is Northern Illinois’ first Heisman finalist ever.
Either way with Winston being the overwhelming favorite the larger focus should be on who finishes second. The HeismanPundit Straw Poll picks Lynch as the runner up which is great considering we’re probably not going to see any mid-major school player win the award anytime soon.
