Royal Rumble: Roman Reigns retains as the Bloodline angle takes an epic turn

Roman Reigns’ historic reign as the WWE undisputed champion continued Saturday night as the Tribal Chief was able to retain over Kevin Owens in what turned out to be an incredibly brutal main event at the Royal Rumble.

After a slow start, Reigns was able to pick up the win after bouncing Owens’ head off the corner of the steel steps before hitting the Prize Fighter with a spear to secure the win and further extend his two-and-a-half-year championship reign.

With that, it felt like the screen was going to cut black and we’d pick things up on Monday Night, but things were just getting started.

In the aftermath of Reigns’ win, the Bloodline continued to destroy Kevin Owens, cuffing him to the ring ropes while hitting him with super kick after super kick. Eventually Roman stepped in to finish the job with a chair shot to Owens which is where the most captivating storyline in pro wrestling took an incredible turn.

With Reigns ready to deliver that final blow to Owens, Sami stepped in to stop the Tribal Chief who handed the Honorary Uce the chair to finish the job himself. And in one of the most epic turns in recent memory, Zayn (who played up the conflict perfectly throughout the night) instead hit Reigns with the chair to one of the loudest pops you’ll ever hear during a WWE event.

But that wasn’t all.

As the Bloodline decimated Sami after the chair shot to Reigns, Jey Uso remained in the corner before leaving the ring entirely leaving the Bloodline behind.

There’s no question the Bloodline angle has been the best current storyline going in pro wrestling today. In fact, it’s reached the point where it may be one of the greatest angles of all time. We’re talking 1996 Bash at the Beach levels when Hogan delivered an atomic leg drop to Savage joining Hall and Nash in what was the beginning of the NWO. Seriously, the storytelling has been perfect with there being no telling where it could go from here.
