Just hours after the Detroit Tigers signed prized free agent Prince Fielder, veteran pitcher Roy Oswalt is now saying he was only kidding when he hung up the phone on Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski.
The Tigers had expressed interest in acquiring Oswalt to fill a spot in their rotation and had called him earlier in the week to see if a deal could be worked out. Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander even courted Oswalt before he apparently turned them down.
Verlander has since told Page Zero Sports that Oswalt has repeatedly called his cell phone asking if he would like to go see the new Underworld movie and maybe get a bite to eat.
Aside from the Tigers, Oswalt has also been linked to the Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox after hearing you can drink beer, eat chicken and play video games on days when you’re not scheduled to pitch.
