If New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes were to leave the team this offseason he may not go far.
David Lennon tweets that the free agent shortstop could be pursued by division rival Philadelphia Phillies or the Washington Nationals.
The Phillies could ultimately re-sign shortstop Jimmy Rollins however they may opt for a younger player given Jimmy Rollins does have a bit of an injury history. The Nationals currently have Ian Desmond but Reyes would be a huge upgrade in the field and on the basses.
If the Mets do in fact lose Reyes, Rollins doesn’t seem to be a backup plan for them however this could very well be the case for the Nationals. Now if Washington were to acquire Rollins, Desmond could be used as trade bait to obtain pitching help or a center fielder.
Reyes also may generate interest from the San Francisco Giants, Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers or even the Boston Red Sox.
