St. Louis outfield prospect Oscar Taveras (22) was reportedly killed in car accident while driving to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic with his girlfriend who also died. Taveras’ agent Brian Mejia confirmed the sad news.

Having played in just 80 games this past season, Taveras was a highly touted prospect for the Cardinals and considered a top five talent heading into 2014 with superstar potential. Taveras’ last career highlight came during in Game 2 of the NLCS when he hit a game tying home run in the 7th inning.
