Report: Red Sox set to fire Bobby Valentine

After another forgettable year for the Boston Red Sox, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the team is set to fire manager Bobby Valentine after only one season.

Sitting at 69-92 heading into the final game of the year against the Yankees, it’s expected that Valentine will either be fired Thursday or Friday of this week. There have also been some reports that Valentine will be fired immediately after the season finale in New York.

Aside from the lousy record though the Bobby Valentine ship in Boston began to sink quickly. Almost off the bat Valentine openly questioned fan favorite Kevin Youkilis prior to Youkilis being shipped to the White Sox.

Things eventually got worse though for the Red Sox as they continued to lose.

Former Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and second baseman Dustin Pedroia, among others, approached management about Valentine before the trade deadline (per Yahoo! Sports). Valentine also had a very public blow up on The Big Show radio host Glenn Ordway in early September.

Valentine’s radio antics would continue though when he stated Wednesday that he felt he was undermined by the coaches throughout the season, per WEEI.com.

The disaster that was the Red Sox season in 2012 cannot totally be pinned on Valentine. However when you factor in this being the worst season for Boston since 1965 when the club went 62-100, someone has to be the fall guy and it looks like it’s going to be Bobby V.
