Report: No deal in place YET to move Thrashers to Winnipeg

According to reports, including those coming from TSN.ca, a deal between the current Atlanta Thrashers ownership group, Atlanta Spirit LLC and True North Sports and Entertainment and Winnipeg based group has not been completed yet. This conflicts with earlier reports coming from The Globe and Mail that a deal had been reached between the two groups and the Thrashers would be relocated to Winnipeg Manitoba.

Sources confirmed (Thursday) that preparations are being made for an announcement Tuesday, confirming the sale and transfer of the Thrashers to True North Sports and Entertainment, which owns and operates the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League and the MTS Centre arena, which would become the NHL team’s new home.

TSN.ca says that officials from Winnipeg and Atlanta have indicated that significant issues are still being negotiated.

Meanwhile the Winnipeg Free Press writes that a high-ranking True North official says that the Globe story was “100 percent false”. However the paper goes on to state that a deal can be completed anytime.

Despite a deal apparently not being in place yet, Winnipeg hockey fans, including those who were fans of the old Winnipeg Jets took to the streets chanting “Go Jets Go!” while wearing the old red, white and blue Jets jerseys.

We will be sure to keep an eye on this so you can stay tuned to TheMajors.net for more information as it becomes available.
