Despite a 31-20 win over the San Diego Chargers Sunday afternoon, the Bears may have suffered a serious blow to their run to the NFL postseason.
Reports out of Chicago indicate that starting QB Jay Cutler suffered a broken thumb on his throwing hand sometime during the game Sunday.
The news however gets worse for the Bears.
Several sources including ESPN and Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune report that Cutler will need surgery on the broken thumb and will be lost 6-8 weeks or the remainder of the regular season.
With this timetable, Cutler could be back for the opening round of the playoffs.
Here is how the rest of the Bears’ season shapes up…
- @ Oakland
- vs. Kansas City
- @ Denver
- vs. Seattle
- @ Green Bay
- @ Minnesota
If any positives can be taken out of this situation for the Bears it’s their remaining schedule. However if the reports are accurate and Cutler will be sidelined for any significant time, the Bears season will rest on the shoulders of QB Caleb Hannie.
