The Detroit Red Wings were informed today that forward Darren Helm would be out for 6-8 weeks after sustaining a shoulder injury during Saturday’s 3-2 OT win over the New Jersey Devils.

This was anticipated by the Red Wings as head coach Jeff Blashill confirmed as much after the win Saturday. Likewise the injury occurred during the first period of Saturday’s matinees after Helm fell awkwardly after being checked into the boards by Travis Zajac in the first period.
Aside too from Helm’s shoulder his absence will have an affect on the team’s penalty kill. So far this season Helm has primarily been playing on the team’s top PK line alongside on Dylan Larkin and Anthony Mantha which has seen the team accumulate an 81.1 penalty kill percentage within the first couple months of the young season.
