Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi has been awarded $3.5 million dollars and a one-year deal by an arbitrator according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
It was expected that the arbitrator was going to rule anywhere between $3 and $5 million for Bertuzzi who came offer a year in which he scored 21 goals and set a new personal best with 48 points over 71 games this past season. But despite that though, the ruling was a slight win for Detroit who filed heading into the proceedings for $3.15 million while Bertuzzi set his number at $4.25 million.
Although Bertuzzi isn’t quite at the same level as a Dylan Larkin or Anthony Mantha which went to show in the final outcome of these proceedings, he has still been one of the brighter young players for the Red Wings in their rebuild. It’ll be interesting to see how Steve Yzerman approaches Bertuzzi’s contract this upcoming season. My guess is Stevie Y will offer up no more than three-years with an AAV between $4 and $5 million.
