- After signing a one-year two-way contract with the Red Wings, forward Fabian Brunnstrom has changed his number from 15 to 76.
“I had a couple numbers to choose from,” Brunnstrom said. “I wasn’t a huge fan of 15.”
Brunnstrom wore #96 in Dallas however that has already been taken by longtime Red Wing Tomas Holmstrom. He will also be the first Wing in the franchises history to wear #76.
Ansar Khan of Mlive.com also writes that Brunnstrom is looking for a cellphone.
“I don’t have a phone, actually,” Brunnstrom said. “No car. Staying at Johnny Ericsson’s place. I didn’t know if I was going to stay here, so I didn’t want to sign up for a 12-month plan for a phone. I think today I’ll go to the mall and get me a phone.”
- Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock has ruled out defenseman Mike Commodore due to a sore knee for Friday nights regular season opener. Jakub Kindl will take his defensive spot in the lineup.
- Defensemen Doug Janik, Garnet Exelby and Logan Pyett; forward Chris Conner and goaltender Joey MacDonald all cleared waivers Tuesday and will start the season in Grand Rapids.
