Red Wings’ Nicklas Lidstrom named Norris Trophy finalist

Ansar Khan of Mlive.com writes that Red Wings veteran defenseman and team captain Nicklas Lidstrom has been named a finalist for the Norris Trophy which recognizes the NHL’s top defenseman.

According to Khan, Lidstrom has won 6 Norris Trophies in his career and has been a finalist for the award 11 of the past 13 seasons.

Lidstrom was also recently named a finalist for the NHL’s Lady Byng Trophy which recognizes sportsmanship for a higher level player.

Among the other finalists for this years Norris Trophy are Boston’s Zdeno Chara and Nashville’s Shea Weber.

The NHL will announce the winner during their annual awards show on June 22nd in Las Vegas.
