It’s official. Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg‘s hockey career is in fact over. General manager Ken Holland confirmed the news Friday morning further adding that Zetterberg’s back condition was ‘degenerative’ and that the 15-year veteran would be placed on the long-term injured reserve.

The news regarding Zetterberg doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering the uncertainty surrounding the captain’s back and the report by Jeff Moss a few months ago that the mainstream Detroit sports media failed to report on.
Ken Holland announced that after consulting with Doctors, Henrik Zetterberg is no longer healthy enough to play professional hockey.

Zetterberg, a former 210th overall pick in 1999 finishes his career with 960 points in 1,082 NHL games and will go down as one of the best defensive forwards in franchise history. He currently has three-years remaining on his current deal with the team.
