According to the Detroit Red Wings, there will be a noon media teleconference with Red Wings GM Ken Holland and veteran goaltender Chris Osgood.
It is expected that the teleconference will shed some light on the future plans for Chris Osgood.
Last week Ken Holland indicated that he wanted to talk with Chris Osgood and determine how his motivation was for playing next season. The Wings are still looking for a goalie to back up Jimmy Howard next season.
Last season, Osgood indicated that he wanted to play another year however there were some health concerns from the Red Wings after Osgood was held out for the entire second half of the season recovering from sports hernia surgery.
The Wings recently re-signed goaltender Joey MacDonald to a two-year one way contract. He is expected to be the teams third goalie and start the season in Grand Rapids with the teams AHL affiliate.
I fully expect that Wednesday’s teleconference will be to announce Osgood’s return to the team for another year. It’s hard to believe that they would schedule this type of press conference to announce a retirement.
