Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press is reporting that the Red Wings and center Dylan Larking are looking to get a long-term deal done somewhere around five to six years in total length.
Larkin too seems pretty confident that something will be finalized telling Jame that he feels ‘pretty confident that something will get done before training camp. No worries about it.’

There however may be some worry for Detroit in their attempt to wrap up Larkin (who’s an unrestricted free agent) for the long-haul. Currently the Wings have just $2.5 million in available cap space per CapFriendly while the young forward is looking to get a significant raise on the three-year entry level contract he signed upon entering the League worth an AAV of $925,000.
Luckily for the Red Wings this offseason they can exceed the cap by 10 percent but will need to get themselves below the $75.9 million ceiling once the season starts. It’s assumed Detroit will get some relief by once again placing Johan Franzen and his $3.95 million dollar cap hit on the long-term injured reserve. Likewise, Detroit may end up placing Henrik Zetterberg on the LTIR as well if offseason rumors prove to be correct.
The former 15th overall pick for the Red Wings in 2014, Larkin led the team in points last season with 63 while accumulating 56 goals and 84 assists in 242 career games.
