Serving as the Red Sox manager since 2013, Farrell won the World Series in his first season with Boston overcoming a disastrous 2012 with Bobbly Valentine at the helm. Unfortunately for Farrell and rest of the team the Red Sox finished in last place in the AL East at the conclusion of the 2014 campaign and look to be headed in that direction once again this season.
In almost five full seasons as an MLB manager, Farrell has racked up a 372-390 record which includes two seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Farrell got his start with the Red Sox as Terry Francona’s pitching coach from 2007-2010 which included another World Series win during the 07′ season.
While he undergoes treatment, Farrell will not manage the Red Sox the rest of this season and instead turn things over to bench coach Torey Lovullo. Farrell however fully intends to return to his managerial duties with Boston next season.
From all of us at The Majors we wish Farrell a safe and speedy recovery.
