The Rangers moved to 6-0 in Game 7’s at Madison Square Garden tonight after ousting arch rival Philadelphia 2-1 in the deciding game of the seven game series. After an uninspiring Game 6, New York rebounded on home ice especially in the second period peppering Steve Mason for 16 shots with Daniel Carcillo and Benoit Pouliot beating him twice. This was in large part thanks to beautiful passes from Mats Zuccarello and Derick Brassard respectively. Jason Akeson was able to reduce Philly’s deficit to one as he found the back of the net in the third period. However with Lundqvist in net for the Blue Shirts Akeson’s goal simply wasn’t enough as he successfully turned away 26 shots in the win.
The Rangers now move on to the second round against a Pittsburgh team who had their troubles with the upstart Blue Jackets.
Still though the Rangers have their problems as well.
First they remain 0/21 on the power play while Rick Nash is still searching for his first goal of the playoffs.
If Lundqvist and the Rangers are able to sustain the Pittsburgh offense though they should find themselves moving onto the Conference Finals. This is especially the case if Marc-Andre Fleury continues to struggle in net.
