College football is one of America’s great institutions that offers many a getaway from the rigors of everyday life. Unfortunately however college football, like sports in general also often times brings out the worst of society.
Take for instance the letter Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin received from some pathetic excuse for a human being.
Sumlin’s wife posted the letter in it’s entirety on Twitter:
People of 2017: please tell me how any part of this is ok. And to the sender: did it occur to you that a child may open it?#orelseWHAT? pic.twitter.com/Co1s2Hb94r

You read that right. Sumlin got called the N-Word because some shit head doesn’t approve of the way he’s coaching a football team.
Sitting in 2017 I wish I could say I’m surprised by this. But like anything else we’ve seen this year, I’m not. As much as we want to distance ourselves from this Country’s ugly past when dealing with racism, we have to just fully admit we still have a problem with some of that same nastiness.
Can we move past it? I certainly hope so.
