After looking like complete dog shit in Game 3, the Blues struck back in Game 4 with a 4-2 win over the Bruins to even up the Stanley Cup Finals at two-games a piece.
St. Louis got started early when Ryan O’Reilly lit the lamp with a nice wrap around goal 43 seconds into the first and finished the night with two of the Blues’ four goals.
Dominating the shots total 38-23, St. Louis had an answer for anything and everything the Bruins had to offer. After opening up the scoring, Boston managed to tie things up in the first however it took just about two minutes for the Blues to re-gain the lead.
Again, St. Louis’ resiliency and domination on the forecheck reigned supreme even as Boston looked poised to snatch the lead and perhaps a commanding three-games to one advantage in the series, the Blues stepped up and managed to quell any kind of Bruins comeback. Case in point as Tuuka Rask managed to strike down a Blues power play Boston had their shot when Jay Bouwmeester took a high sticking penalty. The St. Louis penalty kill however limited Boston to just two shots while holding an 11-6 SOG advantage for the rest of the game.
As the Blues outplayed the Bruins in just about every facet of last night’s game, Boston was further hampered with Zdeno Chara taking a puck to the grill in the second period. He left the ice with his mouth bloodied and didn’t return for the rest of the game aside from sitting on the bench with his teammates.
Chara not playing for the rest of the night was advised to him by the training staff but it’s assumed he’ll suit up and take to the ice in Game 5 Thursday night in Boston.
