The Zen Master may not be done coaching in the NBA just yet.
According to the New York Post who cites an unnamed source if the right situation were to present itself to longtime Lakers head coach Phil Jackson then he would have to consider it.
That right situation could be the New York Knicks who added Amarβe Stoudemire last off-season, Carmelo Anthony this season and may add another high-priced piece this off-season.
If Jackson were to consider the Knicks job, it wouldnβt be the first time he flirted with the idea of coaching in the Big Apple. Back in 2005 Jackson actually interviewed for the job however decided to re-up with the Lakers.
βPhilβs going to have to find a way to keep himself occupied and fulfilled because Jeanie [Buss, Jacksonβs girlfriend] is not retiring,β the league source said.
Jeanie Buss, the Lakersβ marketing chief and daughter of owner Jerry Buss, told The Post on Feb. 12 that Jacksonβs return to the Knicks would βbring him full circle.β
βI can tell you he was open to going to the Knicks in 2005, then the Laker job opened up,β Buss said in February before Jackson made what may be his last Garden appearance as coach.
βThe Knicks job would bring him full circle and I wouldnβt stop him. I am in New York several days every month for business. That being said, the Knicks have a very good coach and are doing very well. So it shouldnβt matter.β
