New York Yankees 10, Boston Red Sox 2
With a 10-2 win the New York Yankees moved one game ahead of the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East who lost to Tampa Bay 5-3.
With two games left though for both teams, the AL East is still very much up for grabs. However a Yankee win Tuesday night and an Orioles loss will ensure the division for the bombers as the Orioles will be forced to enter the Wild Card one game playoff.
Detroit Tigers 6, Kansas City 3
The Detroit Tigers clinched their second consecutive division title and postseason appearance with a 6-3 win over the Kansas City Royals. In fact this was the first time the Tigers have gone to back-to-back postseasons since 1934 and 1935.
With the win the Tigers eliminated the Chicago White Sox from postseason contention despite their 11-0 win over the Cleveland Indians Monday night.
Oakland Athletics 4, Texas Rangers 3
The Oakland magic continues as the Athletics secured a postseason berth for the first time since 2006 with their 4-3 victory over the Texas Rangers. It doesn’t stop there for Oakland who moved one game behind Texas for the AL West lead and will look to leapfrog the Rangers to avoid the Wild Card one game playoff.
With the Oakland victory they officially eliminated the Los Angeles Angels and Tampa Bay Rays from postseason contention.
Meanwhile Mike Trout of the Angels was one home run away from the cycle as he continues his quest for an AL MVP.
Pittsburgh Pirates 2, Atlanta Braves 1
Pittsburgh was already eliminated from postseason contention however their victory over the Braves ensured the Nationals of their first division title since moving to Washington. This comes despite the Nationals being shut out by the Phillies Monday night.
The Braves however did clinch a postseason berth a couple days ago but will now have to settle for the Wild Card one game playoff.
Los Angeles Dodgers 3, San Francisco Giants 2
After the St. Louis Blues defeated the Cincinnati Reds 4-2, the Dodgers needed to beat the Giants to keep their postseason hopes alive which they did in the bottom of the ninth.
The Cardinals’ fate is still in their own hands as another win tomorrow night (or Dodger loss) would ensure them a Wild Card spot in the NL playoffs.
